The Palos Verdes Hills and cliffs, with grand vistas of the Pacific Ocean and of Santa Catalina Island are the city of Rancho Palos Verde's notable geographic features. The Palos Verdes Nature Preserve, encompassing approximately 1,400 acres and is owned by the City of Rancho Palos Verdes and is co-managed by the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy for ecological values and habitat restoration.
The reserve provides excellent passive recreational opportunities, as they are full of networks of hiking, equestrian, and bicycle trails. Standing on the most south-westerly point of the Palos Verdes Peninsula, Point Vicente Lighthouse has long been one of this area's jewels.
