Surrounding Areas

Not only does Palos Verdes have million dollar homes, but it’s also known for its million dollar weather. There are several microclimates, but you can pretty much trust that the weather on the “hill” is one of the most desired weather climates in the United States. We locals, affectionately refer to the Palos Verdes Peninsula as the “hill”.

While there are some areas of the hill that experience seasonal fog due to its proximity to the coast, other areas are known for endless days of sunshine despite their neighbors in Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach and Manhattan Beach experiencing what Southern Californians refer to as “June Gloom”.  It can be cool, over cast and Ugg boot weather just 1.5 miles away and blazing hot with sunny skies in the opposite direction.

Exploring Palos Verdes

With that said, you can literally drive out of the June Gloom leaving Redondo Beach and drive towards the communities in Palos Verdes and you would never realize that less than a mile away there is fog.  In other words, you go from sweater weather to tank top and shorts,  that's how drastic of a difference it is.

June Gloom is a term or colloquialism coined by the locals recognizing a weather pattern with cloudy, overcast skies and cooler temperatures in the beach neighborhoods. Meanwhile, a few neighborhoods away its glorious skies of sunshine. This weather pattern commonly known to be during the month of June has its place in May, July and sometimes August. Thus, coining new terms such as “May Gray” and “Fogust”
