At the Via Del Monte project affectionally referred to as 'Casa Mira Sol' for its breath taking views, we started with a fairly neutral color palette. We did not want to compete with the ocean back drop as we wanted the ocean views to steal the show.

The color palette of Benjamin Moore White Dove and Farrow & Ball Off-Black accents the marble-like quartz waterfall island. We also mixed metals and layered

in textures, like woven baskets, greenery, and added textiles which gives the design dimension.

This kitchen was originally designed with upper cabinets but we recognized a need for design since the openness of the kitchen was such a focal point. We also wanted to introduce the warmth of wood that would complement the fireplace mantle. We were conscience of balancing functionality and aesthetics. Its one thing to decorate your shelves and another for them to be practical. We like to incorporate white dishes, greenery/herbs, cookbooks and cutting boards - all everyday items that can be used as needed.

Consider all of the items you need to have on hand and display them thoughtfully in beautiful pieces. Line up glass jars on a shelf, buy a really beautiful handmade jug to hold your kitchen utensils and consider ways to incorporate canisters of tea and coffee, salt and pepper shakers that tie in with the other styling elements in your kitchen.

Choosing the right light fixtures was another consideration as we wanted a light that was sophisticated and bold but would not distract or block the views ... yet still make a statement (is that too much to ask of a light fixture?). We love the airy vibe of these lights and we chose a brass finish to complement the warmth of the wood shelving and further tie in the cabinet hardware.

Simple repetition of accent colors completes the look and confirms the cohesiveness and warmth of the kitchen all the while still enjoying the preeminent views.
