Reduce Anxiety

We know it’s an unsettling and stressful time right now which can be even harder for those already dealing with anxiety and depression. Here are some of our tips and tricks to help you reduce anxiety right now.

1. Get Daily Exercise

There’s no better way to release built up stressful energy than engaging in exercise. Multiple studies show that exercise can improve mental health by helping the brain cope better with stress. Despite the current situation, there are a number of options for exercising at home including streaming an online workout or taking a jog or walk outside while social distancing. Just twenty minutes of exercise a day will help keep the anxiety away.

2. Take a Magnesium Supplement

Magnesium is involved in over 600 enzymatic reactions in the body — including reducing anxiety and improving sleep quality. Unfortunately, in times of intense stress, such as the COVID-19 outbreak, magnesium is more readily excreted from the body. To help replete magnesium and ease anxiety, we been recommend to take take 200-400mg of magnesium glycinate a day. Moreover, increasing foods high in Magnesium can help: spinach, kale, asparagus, avocado, raspberries, figs, bananas, nuts, salmon, tuna.

3. Limit Refined Sugar and Alcohol

While there is nothing wrong with the occasional glass of wine or extra scoop of ice cream, regular consumption of alcohol and refined sugar can suppress the immune system and weaken the body's ability to respond to stress.

4. Stay Connected

The current situation requires us to isolate physically, but that doesn't mean we need to feel isolated. With access to countless video conferencing platforms, we can take advantage of this technology and plan for virtual dates with friends and family throughout the week. You might even consider joining an online book club, attending a live-stream of a fitness class, or signing up for a virtual class. #stayhuman
